Soap Nuts (Berries) for laundry, household cleaning, hair shampoo and for bath

What are soap nuts (soapberries)?

Soap nuts, or soap berries are an organic, all natural way to clean just about everything. Soap Nuts are a popular natural alternative to chemical soaps and cleaners. Soap nuts are great for those with allergies or those who are sensitive to cleansers and detergents! The shells of these soapberries naturally produce saponins when introduced with water, creating a bubbly lather that can be used to clean and do your laundry. Our organic Soap Nuts are deseeded.

For Laundry

Soap nuts are very easy to do your laundry with. And they are very cost effective to use. A load of laundry costs about 20 cents, a huge savings on the cost of a brand name commercial laundry detergent.

Use 6 soap nuts at a time. Place them in a tie cloth bag or place them in an old sock and tie the sock. You can reuse the same 6 Soap Nuts to do up to 6 loads of laundry.

Soap Nuts can be used in any type of machine- top loaders, front loaders and High Efficiency (HE) washing machines.

You will use the Soap Nut shells (which are really the skin of the Soap Berry fruit), or you can use a liquid made from Soap Nuts (recipe below). We recommend using the soap nuts shell, as you will use them over and over again.Do NOT use fabric softeners or dyer sheets. Soap Nuts are natural fabric softeners and already have anti-static properties. You’ll also save even more money, not having to purchase dryer sheets and softeners!

Note: If your laundry is heavily soiled add about a 1/4 – 1/2 cup of baking soda or washing soda to the wash to give some extra washing power.

When the wash is done, separate the Soap Nuts bag from the wash and put your clothes on the line or in the dryer, and put up the bag of Soap Nuts for the next use.

You can reuse the same 6 Soap Nuts to do up to 6 loads of laundry! When you take the soap bag out of the wash, squeeze it a bit and see that it has more bubbles. If it does, the nuts can be used again. When the nuts are done producing bubbles, just throw them into the compost.
